A human node in an agentic world. A standing invitation to make contact — not next week, not eventually. Now.
This is the engine of the whole project. James isn't building a personal brand in the conventional sense — he's making a person findable, contactable, and available in an era when human presence itself is becoming scarce. The brand isn't about promoting a self. It's about offering a node.
The world is filling up with agentic systems, automated outreach, AI-generated content, and algorithmic relationships. What's genuinely rare now is a real human being who is reachable, grounded, embedded in rich networks of people and ideas, and willing to think with you about what's actually happening.
james.today is the simplest possible expression of that offer: here is a person. He's here today. You can reach him.
After 18 years of building things for other people — brands, websites, platforms, systems for consciousness-focused organizations — James is starting to get more public attention. Featured in magazines, invited onto podcasts. But the impulse isn't ego. It's that he's connected to many things and wants to connect more people to more things. The domain he's owned for a decade, bought originally for a clever email address, turns out to be the perfect articulation of the stance.
Not a static bio or a scheduling page that books you three weeks out. A live window: here's what James is working on today, here's what's on his mind, here are the open slots. The pace has changed — a single day with a client, especially in person, can produce what used to take weeks. The site should reflect that tempo.
Today is the only tense that matters. Not a portfolio of past work, not a manifesto about the future. A practice of showing up in the present moment, making contact possible, and updating as the world shifts beneath us. The .today TLD isn't clever — it's philosophical.
Minimum friction between the visitor and actual contact. Not a funnel, not a lead-gen form, not a "let's schedule a call." A threshold. Real-time availability, dynamic booking, the ability to reach a human today — not as performance, but as genuine practice.
A designer who thinks in systems. A spatial thinker who sees in synesthesia. A bridge-builder between ancient pattern languages and living digital infrastructure. The root system beneath the studio.
James has spent his career at the edges — where parametric geometry meets web design, where Vedic philosophy meets UX, where sacred geometry meets JavaScript. He founded Iris Cocreative to serve consciousness-focused organizations, but the personal brand is something different: it's the person underneath the practice.
Key tensions that define the voice:
Technical depth + philosophical breadth. He can talk about Grasshopper node graphs and the Samkhya tattvas in the same breath — and mean both equally.
Craft devotion + systems vision. He cares about the kerning and the cosmology. The CSS variable and the consciousness research.
Builder pragmatism + mystic sensibility. He ships things. He also meditates. The two are not in conflict.
Public reluctance + relational necessity. He doesn't want attention on himself. He does want to connect people to things. The brand lives in this tension without resolving it.
The conventional personal site is a monument. This is a dashboard of aliveness — a real-time signal of what's happening, what's available, and how to make contact.
Available slots people could book into. What he's thinking about right now. The project he's deep in. The article he just read. The client conversation that shifted something. Not a content calendar — a living letter to whoever finds it, timestamped by the day.
The eagle and the condor need to be flying in the digital spheres as well. That's what I'm here for — happy to be digital shaman. James Bolden
The craft of creating coherent digital spaces for transformative organizations. Parametric design, interface philosophy, sacred geometry in web systems. The ongoing experiment of moving communities from grid-based to radial, organic, biomimetic interfaces — and why that shift changes how groups think.
Matter, Intelligence, Space, Time as irreducible dimensions of experienced reality. The Mater/Pater etymology. Dialogues with Samkhya, Plato's Timaeus, Fuller's synergetics, indigenous cosmologies. The book project, developed in public — thinking out loud, not performing expertise.
The frontier: how humans and AI co-create meaning. "The Fingerprints of Probability" as a frame for understanding AI-assisted work. The sensemaking project as lived practice. What it actually looks like to build tools for collective cognition rather than individual productivity.
The voice of james.today is warm but precise. It speaks from experience, not authority. It earns trust through specificity and vulnerability, not credentials and volume.
The anti-patterns: never preachy, never guru-mode, never performatively humble. No "journey" language. No listicles. No hot takes. No content-as-performance. The writing should feel like talking with someone who's been thinking carefully about something and is genuinely glad you asked.
The site should feel like the person: spare, warm, deeply considered. A well-lit workshop, not a gallery. A threshold, not a funnel. Alive with tools and materials, but not cluttered.
Typographically rich. Dark palette with warm accents. Generous whitespace. Occasional bursts of parametric or generative visual texture — subtle reminders that geometry is always underneath.
No hero sliders. No stock photography. No three-column feature grids with icons. Every visual element should be either generated (Grasshopper/p5.js), photographed by James, or hand-drawn. The aesthetic is the message: this was made by a person, with care, using real tools.
The site itself as a design artifact. Interactive elements that reward attention. A sense of time passing — what's here today won't be exactly here tomorrow. The medium carrying the message of presence.
An article series on recognizing AI-generated writing patterns — and what that recognition teaches us about human creativity. Part craft guide, part philosophical inquiry. A second installment on the intersubjective "we" of human-AI authorship is in development.
Matter, Intelligence, Space, Time — a tetrad of irreducible dimensions, tracing through Vedic Samkhya, Plato's Timaeus, Fuller's synergetics, Heidegger's ontology, indigenous cosmologies. In early research phase, developed in collaboration with Claude.
Moving digital communities from linear feeds and grids into circular, organic, node-based spatial arrangements. Built with Grasshopper-to-JavaScript pipelines and embedded in Webflow. The hypothesis: how we see each other shapes how we relate.
The collective counterpart to this personal practice. Where james.today is one voice thinking out loud, the sensemaking project invites many voices into shared inquiry about the present moment. These two projects are symbiotic — the personal site provides a place to stand, the collective space provides a place to move.
What does availability look like when it's genuine rather than performative? What's the right cadence for "today" — daily updates, live pulses, a sense of time passing on the page itself?
How does this connect to Iris Cocreative without being subsumed by it? When someone lands here, do they meet James-the-person or James-the-studio-founder? Both? Neither?
What's the relationship between this personal practice and the larger collective sensemaking work he's part of? Is james.today the proof of concept? The entry point? The anchor?
And the deepest question: how do you build a personal brand rooted in the conviction that the self is relational, not fixed — that you're a pattern that arises in connection, not a thing that exists independently?
james.today is a garden, not a monument. Start sparse, grow dense. Let the form follow the presence. Update it like you live in it — because you do.
